It doesn’t matter how many years you have been riding a bike. Accidents happen.

One fall day, not so very long ago, a couple of my boys were out riding bikes in our driveway when one of them lost his balance and “spilled” off his bike. Marvelously, the only real damage to the boy was a badly scraped up ankle.

I know to be prepared for accidents from numerous previous experiences. I keep a bottle of Arnica Montana (Arnica) 200c on an upper shelf inside the house where everyone knows to find it. He came in and took one of these Arnica pills and cleaned up all the scrapes and scratches on his ankle. He had thought this would be enough, as it usually was.

After a while, however, it was still hurting pretty badly. He came into the office and curled up on a chair holding a tissue over the scraped up areas on his ankle. I inquired about his state and the cause of it. Learning he had already taken Arnica and noting the appearance of the wounds I had his sister give him Hypericum Perforatum (Hypericum) 200c. The numerous scrapes, which would obviously touch many nerve endings, and his behavior pointed more toward Hypericum as the remedy to aid his discomfort.

After taking the Hypericum, it was only a few short minutes before he uncurled himself and walked away.

He really should have said “thank you” before wandering off. I’ll have to spend a little more time teaching him manners along with homeopathic first aid.

Hypericum is great for nerve pain, shooting pains, smashed fingers, and sciatica. When the nerves are involved, don't forget Hypericum. It can even be useful to alternate the use of Hypericum and Arnica for pain if it is that severe. Pain makes the frequency easy to gauge since the returning of the pain tells you it is time for another dose, and if the pain isn't decreasing after a few doses it is time to choose to a different remedy.
